A federally funded program providing free, temporary medication coverage to displaced Puerto Rican residents has been reactivated. An announcement made by the office of U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) on January 18 was welcoming news for sites like Fair Haven Community Health Care, a Connecticut group that has seen more than 300 patients from Puerto Rico displaced by last year's hurricanes. DeLauro is a ranking member on the appropriations subcommittee for HHS, which oversees the Emergency Prescription Assistance Program. The service was continued after having lapsed on January 3, according to a release from DeLauro's office. Fair Haven Community Health Care CEO Suzanne Lagarde, MD, says the announcement enables the clinic to immediately begin refilling prescriptions. The program provides 30-day prescriptions to qualifying patients. Fair Haven Community Health Care has eight offices and six school offices in New Haven and East Haven.
